10 small things to do now to feel less restless

I thought about writing this because I have practiced some of these things today.

There are days when you just don’t know what to do and how to feel better. Nothing you do helps and this is a reminder for such days.

Okay so before I got up and decided to take action I was actually lying down trying to just watch my thoughts and do nothing. But that did not work for me. However, here is a list of things that generally works for me and I hope that it works for you too.

10 small things to do now to feel less restless

1. Drink water

You need to sit with a glass of water and sip it slowly. Then fill your mouth with water and count till 10 before gulping it. If 10 is a lot, try 5.

2. Take a few deep breaths

Minimum 5.

3. Try progressive muscle relaxation

Tense and relax different muscle groups in your body one at a time. This technique helps release tension and promotes a sense of physical and mental relaxation.

4. Sing along with your favourite song

Yes, play a song you love and sing out loud. It doesn’t matter if you’re a singer or not.

5. Move your body

Perform some gentle exercises like stretching, yoga, or a short walk to release pent-up energy and promote relaxation.

6. Engage your senses

Pay attention to your senses to ground yourself in the present moment. Notice the sights, sounds, smells, textures, and tastes around you to shift your focus away from restlessness.

7. Write a to-do list

If restlessness stems from a racing mind, write down a list of tasks and thoughts that occupy your mind. This can help bring clarity and a sense of organization, easing restlessness.

8. Create a calming environment

Dim the lights, play soft music, or light a scented candle. Creating a peaceful atmosphere can help you feel more relaxed and less restless.

9. Wash some utensils

Mindfully or mindlessly, washing utensils can make you feel calm. It gives you time to feel relaxed and to collect your thoughts. But if you don’t like washing utensils then this might not work for you.

10. Take a hot/cold shower/bath

The choice is yours. All you need is to feel the water.
