How to reduce clutter in life

You know when you look around you and see things that don’t have any purpose and don’t mean anything to you. That is clutter.

When you pick up your phone and it reminds you that you’re out of storage because of 2345 pictures of the same thing you took. That is clutter.

When you keep feeling the same emotions over and over again even when time passes and not the good ones. That is clutter.

When you keep trying to catch up with your tasks because you are all over the place. That is also clutter.

Strange right?!

It’s not the things around you, it is the things inside you and your thoughts and your digital life.

Clutter is everywhere.

How to reduce clutter in life

1. Physical clutter

This is the easiest category to tackle.

Start with one area at a time (e.g., a room, a closet, or a desk). Assess each item and ask yourself if it’s necessary or brings joy.

Now some items can be discarded right away. Some should be stored for later and some items even when they don’t serve any purpose should be kept based on its emotional value.

DO NOT GO AROUND DISCARDING THINGS LEFT RIGHT AND CENTER.

2. Digital clutter

This is also simple but time consuming and draining because you need to stare at the screen for longer. To avoid that, do it time to time.

Clean up your digital files, folders, and emails. Delete duplicates and organize files into folders with clear labels.

Unsubscribe from unnecessary email lists, and delete apps and files that you no longer use.

3. Mental/Emotional clutter

Incorporate mindful breathing exercises into your routine to bring a sense of calm and focus to your thoughts.

Compartmentalise your thoughts. Work towards healing. Journal.

4. Time clutter

Set designated times to disconnect from electronic devices to avoid distractions and create focused, uninterrupted time.

Group similar tasks together and tackle them during dedicated time blocks. This helps in minimizing constant task-switching.

That is all from me. Now it is your turn. Where do you think you can reduce clutter in life?
