Do you ever think of your life 5 years from now?
Or does it just sound like another interview question?
When you sit and try to visualise your best self 5 years from now either you would be able to see yourself somewhere you really want to or the question will leave you stressed or you might imagine the worst case scenario.
Now, I am not saying this will help but one thing you can do is look back at your life 5 years in past. Where were you in 2019 and how different is your life today?
The answer to this question can be good, bad, okay and whatever it is, it is okay because you are here now.
Now, the next thing you need to do is decide. Decide what do you want in your life, from your life in the next five years. I am a believer of enjoying the here and the now but I am also a planner and having a goal, a path, a structure, an approximation doesn’t hurt. Whatever you may decided is not and should not be very concentre. It should only be an approximation.
Example:
I see myself as my fittest and strongest version in five years from now.
I see myself as my richest and smartest version in five years from now.
I see myself relaxed and happy five years from now.
I see my family, friends and loved ones happy too but this is not entirely in my control. Because I am not the one who can take many actions to do so. However, this is something I see.
Now, once you have a list of things, you need to make a plan, a strategy to get there. That is because if you don’t take actions, all this would only be imagination.
Alright, so for my goals some of the actions could be to
- Eat better, workout regularly, get timely medical checkups done, sleep well.
- Workout a plan to make more money and increase my wealth, read more, immerse myself into things that make me curious.
- Meditate, stretch, do things that make me happy.
This is a broad plan now I also need to go into details of each of these. You see, that is how you can make sure that you will be where you want to be.
Again, nothing is written in concrete and during these 5 years your goals can change and it is okay, life can take its course and you can adjust accordingly.
So, it is important to look at your goals time to time, adjust your plan and keep going.
Where you will be in five years from now largely depends on:
- The books you read.
- The people you surround yourself with.
- The conversations you engage in (with others and yourself).
- The food you eat.
- The habits you adopt.
So, how what are you willing to do, to be where you want to be in 5 years?
