What would you do today, if there was no tomorrow?

We hear this a lot:

Live like today is your last day.

Present is a present enjoy it.

Live in now.

Now is the time.

But honestly, no matter how hard you try, you cannot really do it. You need to think of the future because even though tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, tomorrow can come and you need to be ready for it. You don’t exactly need to hold on to the past but past has some good memories and those memories are important.

We can’t live thinking that today might be our last day but there are things we can do to make today a good day, in case it was to be the last.

Live consciously

Don’t just breathe, live. Pay attention to what you consume be it food, media, words, music, everything. Feel your breathe. Smile. Take out at least some time to do something you love.

Take time to enjoy your tea/coffee, smell the flowers, wake up early to enjoy slow mornings. Eat your breakfast without being distracted by your phone. Dance a bit. Laugh. Water your plants. Write your journal.

Be kind

Always. Watch what you say. If something makes you angry, take a deep breath and ask yourself if you would okay if those were your last words to that particular person.

Pay attention to your actions. Don’t do something that you might regret later.

If you can’t say something good, don’t say anything.

Go out and have fun

Go out. Feel the crisp air. Meet friends. Meet new people if you feel like. Sit in the sun. Do a group activity.

You don’t need to do what everyone is doing and you don’t need to go where everyone is going, just make sure you do something that is fun for you.

Be aware of your time

Value your time. Don’t waste it doomscrolling or doing things that don’t matter. Also don’t waste it badmouthing, gossiping or doing things that have negative impact on your mood, on your life or on your work. Try to make sure that you use most of your time doing something that has positive impact on your life.

Sleep > Doomscrolling.

Reading > Social media.

Watching sunset > Being jealous of someone’s insta story.

Do things now

Not everything but anything that you can do in less than 5 minutes, do it right away. Also, list and plan to do things before you get too close to deadlines.

Even when it comes to things like buying something you really want or going for a vacation or meeting/ calling a friend, do it as soon as you can. Schedule time for things so you don’t go on living without doing these little things.

Show love

Growing up we had a posted in our dining room which said: “If you love someone, show it.”

It is an important message. You need to show your love and affection time to time. Telling your loved ones that you care about them and that you love them might sound cheesy but you can do it subtly in your own way. Make sure you make them feel loved.

How does JOMO fit into this? Well, JOMO comes into picture whenever we talk about living a happy life. If you miss out on things that don’t matter, you focus on things that do and that’s where JOMO (joy of missing out) comes into picture.

So, what would you do today, if there was no tomorrow?
