10 ways to practice JOMO (joy of missing out) at home

JOMO stands for the “Joy of Missing Out.” It is a concept that refers to finding happiness and contentment in missing out on certain activities or experiences. Rather than feeling the fear of missing out (FOMO), JOMO is about embracing the idea that it’s okay to say no to certain things and taking a break from the constant stimulation of technology and social media. It’s about finding joy in the present moment and appreciating the simple things in life without the pressure to constantly be doing more, seeing more, or experiencing more.

Here are some JOMO at home ideas:

  1. Have a tech-free evening: Turn off your phone, laptop, and TV for an evening and enjoy some quiet time without any digital distractions.
  2. Practice meditation: Take some time to sit in silence and focus on your breathing. Meditation is a great way to relax and be present in the moment.
  3. Read a book: Choose a book you’ve been wanting to read and lose yourself in its pages. This is a great way to relax and stimulate your mind without the need for constant stimulation.
  4. Cook a meal from scratch: Take some time to prepare a meal from scratch using fresh ingredients. Cooking can be a great way to de-stress and connect with your food.
  5. Take a long bath: Draw a bath, light some candles, and add some essential oils or Epsom salts. This is a great way to relax and unwind after a long day.
  6. Do a puzzle or play a board game: Get your brain working and have some fun with a puzzle or board game. This is a great way to spend time with family or roommates and enjoy some analog entertainment.
  7. Practice yoga: Roll out your yoga mat and practice some gentle stretches and poses. Yoga is a great way to connect with your body and calm your mind.
  8. Journal: Take some time to reflect on your thoughts and feelings by writing them down in a journal. This is a great way to practice self-care and gain insight into your inner world.
  9. Have a cozy night in: Curl up on the couch with a blanket, some tea, and a good movie or TV show. This is a great way to relax and enjoy some downtime.
  10. Listen to music: Put on some of your favorite music and let yourself get lost in the sounds. Music can be a great way to relax and unwind without the need for constant stimulation.
