Doing things that make you lose track of time

I have lost the track of time doing both good and not so good things. (Why Netflix, why?!)

So, is it a good thing?

Engaging in activities that make you lose track of time can indeed be beneficial for your well-being and overall happiness. When you become deeply immersed in an activity, you enter a state of flow, also known as being “in the zone.” During this state, you are fully concentrated and focused on what you are doing, and time seems to pass quickly because you are enjoying the activity and not constantly checking the clock.

Here are some reasons why these activities can be good for you:

  1. Reduced stress: Flow experiences can lower stress levels as they help shift your attention away from worries and anxieties, allowing you to live in the present moment.
  2. Increased happiness: When you enjoy an activity, it triggers the release of dopamine, the “feel-good” neurotransmitter, leading to increased feelings of joy and satisfaction.
  3. Enhanced productivity: Being in a state of flow can improve your productivity, as you are more likely to accomplish tasks efficiently and effectively.
  4. Improved learning and skill development: Flow experiences can facilitate the learning process and help you develop new skills, as you are more receptive to information and open to challenges.
  5. Enhanced creativity: Engaging in activities that immerse you can stimulate creativity and help you come up with innovative ideas.

Examples of activities that often induce a state of flow include playing musical instruments, painting, writing, coding, playing sports, solving puzzles, gardening, cooking, and engaging in other hobbies that captivate your interest.

However, it’s also essential to find a balance and ensure that you don’t neglect other important aspects of your life, such as social interactions, physical health, and responsibilities. Moderation is key to enjoying these activities without letting them completely take over your life.
