How to stop thinking about past and future and live in NOW

I made this reel:

I did cover most of the points in the caption but still thought writing a blog post would be a good idea.

You know building castles in the air is fun and games and I have spent countless hours doing that but honestly, that just makes you less present and less driven and less productive 🙂

I have spent a substantial amount of time in building those castles and most of them crashed because I spent more time thinking than doing. But that me is in past and we already talked about not going to the past as well.

Sometimes what has already happened stops us from being present as well. You know when someone does something wrong to you or you feel wronged or life just becomes unfair. Well, there isn’t much you can do thinking about that too.

Anyway, here are somethings you can do to be more present and live a happier life.

Mindfulness Meditation

Practice mindfulness meditation regularly to train your mind to focus on the present moment. Start with short sessions and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable. During meditation, pay attention to your breath or sensations in your body, and whenever your mind wanders to the past or future, gently bring it back to the present moment.

Deep Breathing Exercises

Deep breathing can help bring your focus back to the present moment. Take slow, deep breaths and focus on the sensation of the air entering and leaving your body. This can help calm your mind and reduce anxiety about the past or future.

Engage Your Senses

Paying attention to your senses can help anchor you in the present moment. Notice the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures around you. Engage fully in whatever you are doing, whether it’s eating, walking, or talking to someone.

Practice Gratitude

Cultivate gratitude by focusing on the positive aspects of the present moment. Take time each day to reflect on things you are grateful for, no matter how small. This can help shift your focus away from dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

Limit Rumination

If you find yourself dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, acknowledge these thoughts without judgment and then gently redirect your focus back to the present moment. Remind yourself that you cannot change the past or predict the future, but you can control your actions and mindset in the present.

Mindful Activities

Engage in activities that naturally encourage mindfulness, such as yoga, tai chi, or walking in nature. These activities can help you become more attuned to the present moment and less focused on past regrets or future uncertainties.

Set Boundaries with Technology

Limit distractions from technology, such as social media and constant notifications, that can pull your attention away from the present moment. Set specific times to check your phone or computer, and spend the rest of your time fully engaged in the here and now.

That’s all from me, now it is your turn. Tell me something you do to stay in present.
