Life needs a fine balance between FOMO and JOMO

FOMO – Fear of missing out

FOMO in itself is not a very bad thing. It’s something that makes you adventurous. It helps you get out of your comfort zone.

The problem is too much of FOMO.

When all you can think of is missing out on all the fun things happening around you, it can cause stress and confidence issues and make you question your life choices.

However, a small dose of FOMO can motivate you to travel, find new places, make new friends, and try new dishes and it is all good.

JOMO – Joy of missing out

JOMO is a way to protect your energy. Something you need to practice as a self-care routine. But if you hit the JOMO button too hard, you might get confined to a safe atmosphere where you might not have enough opportunity to grow.

So, should one practice FOMO or JOMO?

The answer is a good balance. A bit of FOMO and a whole lot of JOMO.

While doing my research I found most articles that stated FOMO is bad and JOMO is good. But nothing is black and white in reality.

In the end, you need to be the judge of what’s good for you.

What’s bad is unhealthy competition but if a little competition motivates you to do better at work, make more money and live a better life then it is good. In this case, you need to MISS OUT on jealousy but keep up with the competition.

Similarly, if you say NO to every opportunity you won’t know your limits and you won’t use your 100% potential but if you say YES every single time, you will burn out.

So it is up to you to choose your battles.

Choose JOMO wisely 🙂
